“We The Africans”: How Two U.S. College Students Are Fighting a Hunger Pandemic in Ghana and Nigeria

“Don’t wait until a tragedy strikes in order to act and implement change.”

These are the words that Mary Yeboah and Koluchi Odiegwu—two second-year college students at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia—live by.

Although these two young women have spent the past five months at home in isolation, beginning in April 2020, they’ve raised over $32,000 for remote villages in Africa whose inhabitants are facing mass hunger caused by the coronavirus.

U.S. Consul General Hosts 56 Nigerian Mandela Washington Fellows

The United States Consul General, Claire Pierangelo, Thursday hosted young 56 Nigerians who participated in the 2019 Mandela Washington Fellowship to a reunion conference.

The 56 Nigerians were among the 700 young leaders from sub-Saharan Africa who recently completed a six-week intensive academic and leadership programme at some of the most prestigious US colleges and universities.

The U.S. Must Remain in Africa’s Fight against Boko Haram

On Thursday, August 15, the international terrorist group Boko Haram attacked a military base and community in Nigeria, killing three soldiers. This comes on the heels of an even deadlier attack three weeks ago, when armed members of the group rode motorcycles into a funeral in northern Nigeria and opened fire on the procession, killing 65 mourners.

U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band “Topside” performed for 300 children and youths at the Johnson Jakande Tinubu Park in Lagos as part of their second visit to Nigeria this year. The children sang and danced to the delightful tunes performed by the band. “Topside” is in Nigeria as part of the visit by the USNS Carson City.
